UPSC CPF Assistant Commandant Exam
Pattern
The UPSC CPF (Central Police Forces) Assistant Commandant Exam is
conducted in two stages:
Stage I: Written
Examination

The exam is objective type and consists of two papers.
·
Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence - 250 marks
·
Paper II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension - 200 marks
·
Each paper is for two hours and there is a negative marking of one-third
for every wrong answer.
Stage II: Physical
Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Interview/Personality Test
·
Candidates who qualify in the written exam will be called for the second
stage.
·
The Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests are qualifying in
nature.
·
Candidates who qualify in the Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency
Tests will be called for the Interview/Personality Test, which carries 150
marks.
The final selection
of candidates will be based on their performance in the written examination,
physical standards/physical efficiency tests, and interview/personality test.
It's important to note that the UPSC may make changes to the exam
pattern from time to time, so candidates should regularly check the official
UPSC website or notification for any updates or changes.
Selection Process 2023
The selection process for the UPSC CAPF (Central Armed Police
Forces) exam consists of three stages:
1.
Written Examination: The first stage is a written examination
consisting of two papers. Paper-I is an objective type test covering general
ability and intelligence, and Paper-II is a descriptive type test covering
general studies, essay, and comprehension.
2.
Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test
(PET): Candidates who qualify in the written examination are called for the PST
and PET. The PST includes height, chest, and weight measurements, while the PET
involves running, long jump, and shot put.
3.
Interview/Personality Test: Candidates who clear the PST and PET
are called for an interview/personality test conducted by the UPSC.
The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in
all three stages. Candidates who clear all stages are appointed as Assistant
Commandants in various CAPF organizations, including the Border Security Force
(BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force
(CISF), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Pattern 2023
UPSC CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) examination is conducted
by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit candidates for various posts
in the Central Armed Police Forces such as BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB.
The syllabus for the UPSC CAPF examination is divided into two papers:
Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence
This paper consists of objective-type questions and is further
divided into two sections:
Section A:
1.
General Mental Ability: The questions in this section will test
the candidate's logical reasoning, analytical ability, and problem-solving
skills.
2.
General Science: The questions in this section will cover
general awareness of scientific phenomena in everyday life.
3.
Current Events of National and International Importance: The
questions in this section will test the candidate's awareness of current events
and happenings in the world.
4.
Indian Polity and Economy: The questions in this section will
cover the Constitution of India, political system, and the economic development
in the country.
5.
History of India: The questions in this section will cover the
ancient, medieval and modern history of India.
6.
Indian and World Geography: The questions in this section will
cover the physical, social and economic aspects of geography pertaining to
India and the world.
Section B:
1.
Comprehension: This section will test the candidate's ability to
comprehend and understand the English language.
2.
Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills: The
questions in this section will test the candidate's communication skills,
ability to work in a team, and leadership qualities.
3.
Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability: The questions in this
section will test the candidate's logical reasoning, analytical ability, and
problem-solving skills.
4.
Decision-making and Problem-solving: The questions in this
section will test the candidate's ability to make decisions and solve problems.
Paper II: General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension
This paper consists of subjective-type questions and is further
divided into three sections:
Section A: Essay Questions
This section will test the candidate's ability to express
his/her ideas in a clear and concise manner. Candidates will be required to
write essays on given topics.
Section B: Comprehension, Precis Writing, and Other
Communications
This section will test the candidate's ability to comprehend and
understand the English language. Candidates will be required to write précis
and other communications in English.
Section C: General Studies
1.
Indian Constitution and Polity: The questions in this section
will cover the Constitution of India, political system, and the economic
development in the country.
2.
History of India: The questions in this section will cover the
ancient, medieval and modern history of India.
3.
Geography of India: The questions in this section will cover the
physical, social and economic aspects of geography pertaining to India.
4.
Economic and Social Development: The questions in this section
will cover the economic and social development of India.
5.
General Science: The questions in this section will cover
general awareness of scientific phenomena in everyday life.
6.
Current Events of National and International Importance: The
questions in this section will test the candidate's awareness of current events
and happenings in the world.
7.
Ethics and Integrity: The questions in this section will test
the candidate's ethical and moral values.
